Careful cleaning for conservatory roofs, orangeries, lanterns, rooflights and glazed links, with the access and finish considered together.

Experience dating to 1997

Fully insured, DBS cleared

Quiet, careful service

Enjoy the light above you.

Roof glazing gathers pollen, dust, bird deposits and organic matter. A considered clean restores a clearer view of the sky and makes conservatories and glazed extensions more pleasant to use.

Purified water and suitable pole equipment allow many areas to be cleaned without unnecessary disturbance around the property. Safe access is a critical consideration as is quality of finish. Pitch, height, any fragile surrounds, leadwork, seals and the position of extensions are carefully considered when working on your glass roofs.

East Sussex homes and overhead glazing

Conservatories, glazed extensions, lanterns and rooflights are found on both modern family homes and older converted or extended properties across East Sussex. Their addition and proper maintenance add a lot of desirable character to a property and maintaining them is part of what we do.

Questions about glass roofs and rooflights

Can you walk on a conservatory roof?

No. Browns does not treat conservatory or roof glass as a working platform. Our method depends on suitable access and the construction of the glazing, and the work is only done where it can be completed appropriately.

Will purified water leave marks?

Correctly produced and applied purified water will dry without mineral spotting. Technique, rinsing and the condition of the glazing matter greatly for a flawless finish.

Can you clean the inside of a lantern or rooflight?

Sometimes. Interior access, furniture and the shape of the glazing must be considered separately but we are happy to visit and make arrangements.

Can this be added to a regular window clean?

It is a good idea for roof glass to be regularly cleaned as preventative maintenance. Apart from the pleasure a clean glass roof gives you, there are several reasons this is a good idea: Moss and lichen build-up and the associated retained dampness will cause long-term degradation. Eventually even the polished glass surfaces (which cannot drain as fast as a vertical window pane) will become etched, and dirt and moss retained around seals can contribute to their deterioration.

It keeps the cost considerably lower if we are maintaining cleanliness, rather than attempting a recovery clean on an occasional basis.

Questions about Browns window cleaning services

How often should I have my windows cleaned?

If you want the best shine, maintained at all times, then definitely monthly. If you are happy with a reasonable accumulation of dirt on the glass then every other month is fine.

Monthly window cleaning is keeping and maintaining the perfect shine. Less frequent cleaning involves cleaning a visible accumulation from the glass.

Do you clean the inside of windows?

Yes. Interior window cleaning can be included by arrangement, using genuine buckets and squeegees.

Do you ever use traditional methods?

Yes, where traditional cleaning is the better and safer choice, or for close-hand work such as interior glass cleaning. You may also request it if you prefer.

Purified-water pole system cleaning is our preference because it is safer, but it is also a genuinely better way to clean your windows. It leaves a longer lasting shine – as well as being kinder to the fabric of your property.

Will your cleaning methods damage my leaded lights or wooden frames?

No. We use low-pressure, purified water and flocked soft-bristle brushes specifically designed for more delicate glazing. There is a technique to their use, which we are very experienced in. We never use abrasive chemicals or high-pressure jets on historic properties.

How often should I have my gutters cleared?

Water can seriously damage a building, and drainage from the roofline is a critical run-off for the entire footprint of your property.

We strongly recommend clearing gutters at least once a year. If you live near mature trees, twice a year (typically late spring and late autumn) is advised to prevent blockages.

Do I need to be at home when Browns visit?

No, you do not need to be home. As long as we have access to the exterior of the property we can complete the work – we bring everything with us. We will send you a notification once the job is complete and you can pay at your convenience.

Manual bank transfer is fine, and GoCardless is a simple, secure payment method you will find really convenient.
