The importance of clearing gutters

Gutters collect leaves, moss and other debris throughout the year, particularly on properties with established gardens, mature trees or nearby woodland. Left alone, blocked gutters overflow — staining render, soaking walls and, over time, causing damp in the fabric of the building.

We generally recommend gutter clearance once a year, or twice where heavy tree cover and roof conditions make that appropriate. Every property is different, so the interval should be assessed individually. Gutter height, tree cover, roof pitch, access routes and ground conditions will affect the work and our safety measures.

This service includes

  • Removal of loose leaves, moss and accumulated debris
  • Removal of foreign objects and broken roof material
  • Assessment of downpipe openings where possible
  • Care around planting, conservatories and roofline finishes
  • Combination with fascia and soffit washing where suitable

Properties and rooflines we work around

From village homes to country properties

East Sussex roofs and gutter clearance

New build homes, tile-hung cottages, established village houses and rural properties are often surrounded by mature trees, mossy roofs and planting. Very old tiles release sandy material as they weather and age, and can crack and fall into gutters requiring clearance.

Questions about gutter clearance

Can you clear every gutter from the ground?

Not always. Height, roof shape, extensions and access determine what can be reached safely and effectively. Browns assesses this carefully and works accordingly.

Can gutter clearance be combined with window cleaning?

Often, yes. Combining suitable exterior tasks can be convenient, although each item will still be assessed and quoted properly.

Do you repair gutters?

Browns provides gutter clearance rather than roofing or drainage repairs. If a defect is found during the work, we can explain what was found so you can decide whether a specialist repair is needed.

What photographs are useful?

Include the affected elevation, the full height of the building and any conservatory, extension or restricted side access beneath the gutter.
