Careful window cleaning for country homes
We are Browns Window Cleaning, and we provide a professional and discreet window cleaning service for Heathfield and Horam, Rushlake Green and the surrounding countryside. We work on a wide range of properties, from well-kept family and village homes to older houses, period properties and country homes.
Every house is different, and it is somebody’s home. Access, the condition of your window frames and glass, window design, and your surrounding planting all matter to us. We choose an approach that best suits your home rather than treating every property in exactly the same way.
Our aim is simple: careful work, a thorough finish and a discreet service you can rely on.

Heathfield, Horam and the surrounding villages
We work extensively in the countryside around Broad Oak, Punnetts Town and Dallington to the east; Waldron and Hadlow Down to the west; and Vines Cross, Rushlake Green and Cowbeech to the south. This area features many different types of property, and the practical demands can vary considerably from one property to another.
The many older houses we work on feature wooden sash frames, leaded or Georgian windows and perhaps challenging access. Larger properties feature extensive glazing, orangeries, outbuildings and windows surrounded by established gardens or mature planting. We take these details into account when planning our work. The important thing is not simply the equipment being used, but knowing how and when to use it.
Modern homes, village houses and rural properties
We clean the whole window — glass, frames, doors and sills — thoroughly, every visit. Most of our Heathfield area clients choose a monthly clean, and every other month can be arranged where that suits better. We’ll plan a schedule with you and then simply get on with it.
We also clean glass roofs, rooflights, conservatories, glazed extensions, balcony glass, and windows on orangeries, outbuildings, and pool houses. Mention these when you enquire and we’ll assess them as part of your quotation.

Questions about window cleaning around Heathfield
How often should my windows be cleaned?
Generally, we recommend monthly cleaning. This is frequent enough to keep things looking really good throughout the year — a maintenance clean, if you like. Your glass and frames should retain much of their sparkle until our next visit, while regular cleaning also helps to prevent staining and biological build-up on frames and sills.
Every second month is the alternative. This is a more workmanlike interval: your windows are cleaned once they have become noticeably dirty rather than before they reach that point. We still clean them to the same standard as a monthly clean, but the work takes longer, so the price is generally around 20% higher than the equivalent monthly visit.
Do you clean period properties and older windows?
Yes. We have experience with older and character properties and can adapt our approach to different frames, glazing styles and access requirements.
Do you use water-fed poles?
Yes. We use modern water-fed pole and purified-water systems where they are appropriate, alongside traditional methods where these are better suited to the property.
We often prefer to utilise water-fed pole systems with purified water, as they are very gentle on the fabric of older properties. They also happen to leave a better finish than traditional work, contrary to what some people believe! We have a variety of brushes, jets and other tools that allow us to adapt to almost any type of window.
Do you clean skylights, glass roofs and orangeries?
Often. We prioritise safe and practical access. We can assess skylights, glass lanterns, roof glazing, orangeries and similar areas when quoting.
Do you cover villages around Heathfield?
Yes. Browns welcomes enquiries from Heathfield, Horam, Broad Oak, Punnetts Town, Waldron, Hadlow Down, Vines Cross, Rushlake Green, Cowbeech, Dallington and Churches Green. Send the property location if you would like coverage confirmed.
